Nadale Ravenell, Minister of Music

In just a few years, Nadale Ravenell’s fearless approach to music has helped him to emerge as a serious contender on the modern piano keyboard scene. Adept in any context, his organic, adventurous, whimsical, fiery, and heart-felt approach to keyboarding is always on the cutting edge. Nadale seamlessly weaves together a potpourri of styles illuminating “down home” fun missing in much of the modern piano genre. With any musical genre, he is poised and mature, and particularly comfortable with the traditional gospel and jazz repertoire.

With southern roots and raised in Brooklyn New York , Nadale attributes his success to being reared in his uncle Jeremiah Ravenell’s church. This is the foundation of his musical style. He is the product of many musicians who were groomed through this ministry (Neno Ravenell, Solomon Tucker, and Anthony Ravenell).

Nadale’s professional career began at the age of 21 when he had the opportunity to perform with Dr. Gloria Cooper and the Manhattan Jazz Ensemble. Nadale also went on to become the Musical Director for the Medgar Evars College gospel and jazz ensembles. This collaboration produced two album recordings.

Nadale continued his career by performing with Jason Marsalis, Bill Saxton, Lenny Covington, and Miles Griffith, who are indisputably great musicians in their own rights. Nadale has also performed at The Blue Note, Smalls, and Dizzy’s as a solo artist or as a sideman in New York City.

Nadale continued his musical education at Long Island University where he received his Bachelor and Master’s degree in Jazz Studies and Computer Education. During his studies at Long Island University he had the opportunity to study with Professor Enos Payne, Dr. Gloria Cooper, Dr. Bob Aquino, and Professor Peter Yellin. As a pianist in the Long Island University Big Band, he performed with Tito Puente, and The Mingus Big Band.

As for Nadale Ravenell’s future plans, he states, “My goal is to make the piano and organ as expressive as the human voice.”
